Unusual Hair Care: Bacon Grease?
Bacon Grease in My Hair? Doubt it.
Firstly, I belong to PWETA (People Who Enjoy Tasty Animals) and I love bacon… and grease (no offense to my vegan friends). Fried eggs in bacon grease is a delicacy to me. As much as I love foods that are terrible for me, my greater desire is not to get fat, so I stay away. Subsequently, I don’t have a jar of recycled bacon grease in the fridge, but even if I did I would be hard pressed to put it in my hair.
I read an article on bacon grease used as a hair styling agent – much like a pomade. It’s said this method produces a heavy-duty hold and there is no need for cologne. I doubt I’ll do a review of bacon grease as a fragrance…
My advice is definitely to avoid smelling like swine hiney. I asked on Twitter if anyone uses unorthodox ingredients in their hair and found no bacon users. @fabuliz advised she uses olive oil in her hair for health and shine.
Does anyone use anything unusual in your hair (anything not purchased in the hair care section)?
Peace,
Trent

I have heard of using mayonnaise or olive oil as hair treatments, as well as spices to boost color, but I’m yet to try those. My hair is super easy to manage now – honestly, any shampoo over $3 will do – but I used to change the color seasonally or more and treatments were a must. Stylists always recommended the ever-popular placenta treatments (that’s in the hair care section, but still weird!) and I still have a tub of that mushy heat-activated Queen Helene Cholesterol somewhere. As far as outside of the hair care section, the bestie and I used to whip up raw eggs as a simultaneous face and hair mask. I’m sure we looked fabulous.
Ew..unusual and gross…
Bacon grease? The first I’m hearing of it, but I guess you could use it as a hot oil treatment. You’d have to put it on while hot though since it congeals when it’s cold. Seems that would leave a mark
